The Program Uses Open HTML5 Standards

The program uses the open HTML5 standard to provide a common framework and make it easy for smart TV makers and IP-based, TV-connected retail device manufacturers to bring the Xfinity TV Partner App to their customers. The app ensures that the Xfinity TV service is delivered in a secure and trusted environment that satisfies programmer agreements and complies with regulatory requirements, including privacy protections, delivery of Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages, and closed captioning, video description and other accessibility features.

The Xfinity TV Partner App

The Xfinity TV Partner App can be implemented by any company whose consumer electronics device supports HTML5 as well as industry standard video delivery mechanisms, including Media Source Extensions (MSE) and Encrypted Media Extensions (EME). Comcast is currently working to deploy HTML5-based apps for Samsung and LG Smart TVs. Given the wide availability of HTML5 support on TV and other devices, this solution should be a good fit for a broad set of partners. Beyond HTML5-based apps, Comcast has already developed and launched award-winning app experiences on iOS, Android, PC, Mac, and Roku devices.
